Meeting Location

Meetings are held every second and fourth Monday evening of the month (excluding statutory holidays, school events, etc.) in the Drama Room at Port Moody Senior Secondary School, 300 Albert Street, Port Moody, BC.  Meetings start at 7:30 PM sharp.

September 11, 2017 – Bring a Friend night!  One of the guests will win a free membership to the club for a year.  Sign up, fill in surveys, welcome, introductions, Rick Hulbert 20 min presentation (webpage), social time, member photos from summer assignments.

September 25, 2017 – How to make a photo book. Presentations by several members will demonstrate how easy it is to make a photography book using a variety of different software programs.

October 23, 2017 – Guest Presenter Cindy Hughes from Muddy Love Pet Photography will bring her therapy dog along and teach us how to take great pet photos.

November 27, 2017 –  Guest presenter Rick Hulbert is back to tell us all about photography in Cuba with this talk “Urban Heritage Travel Photography . . . Old Havana Cuba.” https://www.rickhulbertphotography.com/

December 11, 2017 – Christmas social, wish list show-and-tell, and garage sale. Bring any photo gear you have that you couldn’t live without so we can all get ideas to ask Santa for. And, if you have any stuff you are no longer using, we will have a garage sale so that your old stuff can become someone else’s new kit!

January 8, 2017 –  High Sync Flash with guest speaker Paul Wright. This will be a combination lecture and hands on demo. We will follow the meeting with a flash challenge.

January 22, 2018 – Gear Groups. Bring your camera, or any new gear you got over the holidays. We will split into groups with similar brands to share tips and tricks of using our cameras to their fullest. Also bring your holiday challenge and flash assignment images for viewing.

February 26, 2018 –  Street Photography with guest presenter Ian MacDonald. This night will be followed by a field trip and street assignment.

March 12, 2018 –  Post Processing Evening. We will be breaking into small groups tonight for some hands-on post processing. A beginners Lightroom group, an advanced Lightroom group, and a Photoshop group will be available to hone your skills. Bring your laptop if you have one. We will also look at member images from our Night Shooting Fieldtrips. The evening will finish up with a post processing assignment. Everyone will go home with the same raw file to process in their own unique way! Don’t forget to bring a thumb drive to take home a copy of the file.

April 9, 2018 – Travel – Our own inimitable Elizabeth Gray talks about photography travel opportunities.  What to look for in a photo adventure. Bring some of your favourite travel images to share.

April 23, 2018 – Wildlife photographer Derek McCann to present. The evening will be followed by a field trip to Reifel Bird Sanctuary. Bring your edited image from the March 12 meeting to share. It will be fun to see how we each of us edited and interpreted the same photo!

May 14, 2018 – Special FX Demo Night. This will be a fun night. We will rotate through three different special effect stations. Steve will show us how he creates those great wine glass sloshing images. Elizabeth will show you how to freeze the action of a water balloon popping. And, Harry will show us how he composites two images using a green screen and Photoshop.

May 28, 2018 – Night Photography with Mary Jensen. Tonight, we will learn about the settings and tips for shooting all kinds of pictures after the sun has gone down. From city lights and car light trails to the Milky Way. This session will be followed by two field trips (Downtown Vancouver  for evening street shots and Pitt Lake for some Milky Way and Light Painting.  Dates TBD). Also bring your street assignment images to share.

June 11, 2018 – Portraits. This evening is a hands-on shooting session. We will work on our portrait taking skills in both natural light outside and with the club lights and strobes inside. Bring your camera and a flash if you have one. Also, bring your bird/wildlife images to share.  ** Club Elections to be held **

June 25, 2018 – Year-end party and pot-luck. Bring your five favourite images taken between September 2017 and June 2018 with you to share. At the end of the evening we will draw our summer image assignments.

Backup Topic – What Did I Do Wrong? We all have those images on our hard drives that just didn’t turn out like we had hoped. Bring a few of those this evening for some constructive feedback.
