Club Meeting – Jean-François Cléroux-Street Photography: The Listening Street
Jean-François Cléroux is an internationally published, award-winning photographer, modern flâneur, poet, and creative educator based in Vancouver, with artistic roots in Paris, Montréal, and New York. He has been photographing since eighth grade, with work exhibited in Canada, the United States, and India, and published across Europe, India, and North America — including the cover of Popular Photography Magazine, Photo Magazine, and others. For the past decade, his primary artistic focus has been street photography and poetry, a paired practice shaped by attentive wandering, quiet observation, and the emotional undercurrents of everyday life.
A long-time instructor who has taught in Vancouver, Paris, and New York, Cléroux guides photographers toward artistic maturity through project-based practice, ethical presence, and the cultivation of a personal visual voice. His ongoing work includes The Evolving Photographer, along with his blog A Flâneur’s Journal at www.cleroux.com, and the development of The Atelier of the Evolving Photographer, a guided mentorship space where photographers meet throughout the year to deepen their craft, refine long-form projects, and develop a mature, intentional visual voice. He continues to explore analogue processes, from traditional fibre prints to cyanotypes, and experimental printing on stone, glass, and other unconventional mediums.
